REDEVELOPMENT - RESIDENTIAL [Brownfield]

Patras, is representative of many previously prosperous port-cities, struggling to survive as the industries, which fuelled their growth, continue to abandon them. Deserted industries, sparse housing and decaying infrastructure, juxtaposed with the construction site of a new port and highways and the old railway reconstruction, all contribute to the severe urban challenges that the city’s seafront faces. The proposal is a complete redevelopment of a post-industrial, 1-km length Brownfield across the new port, into a large scale residential complex and park that will provide a much needed public space in the area.
The residential building takes the form of a long and tall wall that fortifies the city behind it from the contrasting forces on the site. The sea reclaims what were once hers, breaking the existing coastline and flooding the abandoned industrial building, which are now a leisure park connected with platforms and bridges. An elongated pier protrudes into the water, doubling as a marina.
