PUBLICATION | News vs. Urban Legends

Everyone is familiar with them: urban legend stories. Lot of them not true, but some of them are. Most of all it shows the curiosity and the ability to create stories of human kind. A rumour is easily made and the story changes all along until a urban legend story has developed itself. In this journal I visualize remarkably news items that are NOT fake and transform them to urban legend stories, how the news items could have turned out!

A girl took part in a bet and gave a lamppost a tongue kiss, froze with her tongue against the lamppost. She had to
be removed by police officers, who gave her some warm water to release her.

A night blind teenager waited for her lover on Valentines night, when after a few minutes she though she saw him
standing there on the square. She ran towards him and kissed him heavily. After a few minutes, her real
boyfriend came walking towards her and saw his girlfriend kissing with a lamppost. The girl had recognized her
boyfriend in the lamppost, because of her night-blindness. The boy walked away, broken hearted.

A 102-year old man received multiple invitations of nursery schools to start his 'school career' in the first class.
The invitation was a result of an administrative error.

A very old man had an hidden dream to still start his school career. He decided to send in an admission form
under the name of a toddler with the same name as him. Quickly he received an invitation from multiple
nursery schools. At his first school day, he showed up at the schoolyard in a Maxi Cosi, waiting for someone to
carry him inside. Ofcourse he was send away, eventhough all the toddlers were very interested in this old classmate.

After a medical search, they found 80 balls of heroin in her stomach.

An heavily pregnant woman was arrested at the airport, because the customs thought they had found 80 balls
of heroin inside her stomach. This was taken very seriously: the woman was brought rough handed to the interrogation
room and had to undergo a scan again. After this, they found out they had made a crucial mistake: the woman
didn't seem to have heroin balls in her stomach, but bingo balls. After swallowing the bingo balls, she also ate a
bingo mill, to prepare her child already for a true bingo career.

An high school in Philadelphia is sick and tired of teenagers hiding their mobile phones inside their boots.
They decided that from monday on, the wearing of wide boots like Uggs, is prohibited. The school staff is hoping
that this will reduce the teenagers that smuggle their phone inside the school.

Donatella Versace, owner of fabulous brand Versace, seems to go very far to save her brand from the fiasco.
Donnatella seems to have blackmailed a lot of people, which is the reason this story is almost never heard.
Versace's brand seems to end up in a fiasco, especially the shoes, because of the trending, popular Uggs.
Donnatella couldn't let this happen and blackmailed several schools to make them prohibit Uggs, in the hope her
Versace shoes will be trending again.

The FBI invaded a house with an heavy performance and held the occupant of the house at gunpoint. Only after that they
realized that they had invaded the wrong house. It seemed to be that they were looking for an other occupant of
the appartment complex, someone of the same floor that is said to be a drugdealer. The FBI has apologized and paid
for the damage to the house.

The FBI was planning an invasion in the house of a notorious drugdealer. The drugdealer had multiple sources that
informed him about these plans. This criminal was very smart and switched the housenumbers that were hanging
beside the doors. Because the FBI made the mistake to invade the wrong house, he had enough time to get away.

A famer from New Zealand is arrested and convicted because he had painted several eagles pink and red. A lot of bird
overs were over excited because they though they had found a new species. The man hoped to get media attention
with his action.

A group of eagles decided to fly in another direction this time. This went terribly wrong. The eagles landed
at a car painter and accidentally arrived in the row to get a car paint. The birds had no clue and acted very strange.
Before they knew it, they had a brand new color of feathers.

An elephant in zoo Artis got a contact lens for his left eye. She is the first elephant with this optical attachment in Europe.
She damaged her retina when she got a branch of a tree in her eye while playing.

An elephant in zoo Artis had very bad eyes, so he was given a glasses by a special doctor. This spectacle frame
wasn't really appreciated by the other elephants: he was bullied and laughed at. He felt really unhappy and sad.
That's why the carers of Artis made sure he would get contact lenses to avoid the harassment. The elephant is fully
accepted now and is no longer bullied.
