OpenLAC is an interactive service that involves people inside the cultural centre of Lugano (LAC) in different ways. They can create generative artworks, comment their experiences or contribute indirectly by moving inside the spaces or applauding during the performances. The contribution is projected on the large windows of LAC in order to let people outside participate to what is happening inside.

The core of OpenLAC consists of interactive tables that enable the user to write comments, either with a digital keyboard or by finger, and that offers different programs to generate artworks that react to finger or voice input. These artworks are projected directly on the windows, while the comments are posted on the Facebook page of OpenLAC. After being accepted they will be projected on the windows too.

The movement of people inside the hall and the museum instead is tracked by sensors or by the video cameras and translated into generative art , which is projected on the windows when nobody is “working” on the tables. Another kind of artwork is created by sound sensors placed in the theatre, which capture the sounds of concerts or performances and of the applause and then translate them into generative art.
