2014 - Product Development Project

Aim: To develop a new product for a New Zealand company phil&teds.

Product Identification: By analyzing their product range a gap was identified in their sleep category product line. Hence, it was decided to produce a cot specifically designed for indoor use for the sleep category.

Problem Identification: Parents usually suffer from back pain when using cots to get their baby in and out of the cot. Parents tend to bend over to pick or place their baby and also to pat their baby to sleep. The parents thus arch their back over the side rail and experience back pain as they are in an uncomfortable position. Market analysis was conducted to see how companies in the market address this problem.

Proposed Solution: A cot design where the mattress height can be controlled by a foot pedal or buttons. The proposed cot design also has features like a built in baby monitor, nightlight, and temperature sensor. This design prevents the parents from bending over and fits within the company product line.
