For this exhibit design company's West Coast headquarters, the project entailed fitting out the interior of a new 3000 s.f., loft-style office space. In addition to accommodating a growing staff, the studio also serves as a showcase for Gallagher's work and fosters collaboration among the internal design teams.Furthermore, it must appeal equally to a museum trustee (client) as to a headphone-wearing young designer (employee).
As a result, the project blended the raw with the refined. The open office is a high-volume, light-filled space with exposed infrastructure, while the private offices, conference room, and entry are more polite in their demeanor and materiality. The two zones are linked via a circulation spine that encourages impromptu discussions and cross-pollination among the various working cultures.
