The new in-flight meal packaging I have designed is called the Limited Edition Culture Celebration of South Africa. South Africa is blessed in this sense because not every country would be able to do this. We are diverse and we celebrate these differences in every possible way.
Using this as a theme for in-flight meal packaging creates the perfect opportunity for foreigners to see another side of South Africa, and not just the general facts people tend to hear or read about our country.
I call this a culture celebration because all South African cultures are embraced through this packaging. I looked at each culture in detail to find something that stands out or is a strong element of the specific culture, and I designed a pattern for each culture. These patterns are then combined with patterns from other South African cultures to form something new, but still says South Africa.
A specific meal from each culture is also chosen to be served – passengers literally get a taste of South Africa. With this packaging it is all about the engaging moment between the passenger and the package. It will draw their attention and have them enjoy what is in front of them.
