Great Expectations

Great Expectations
Mediocrity is rarely the goal parents urge their children to strive for. To be average is to be invisible, unseen, irrelevant. Yet, that is just what most of us will accomplish. The vast majority of us will never win a Nobel Prize, or a Grammy, or even perfect attendance. What does that mean? Is it all for nothing?
We must remember that relevance is always relative. Though we may never be considered an icon by the general public, we are superstars to those that love us and vise versa. Our children in particular view us as icons, ones to be closely imitated and adored... and vise versa. Goals are what propel us to progression, and the higher the goal the more we progress. No celebrity or other public figure should ever be more relevant to our children than us. No matter what they have accomplished.
The goals we set for our children and ourselves should prove to make us better, better neighbors, better students, better human beings. So expect great things from your children, but more importantly BE the icon to make them great.
