This is the logo I designed for my consulting services business - Cicada: Creative Historic Preservation Solutions. I chose the cicada as the logo for our company because the cicada is an indelible and recognizable aspect of life in this part of the country.  But more than that….the cicada is symbolic of what we do.  The life cycle of the cicada is unique.  For as many as 17 years, cicada nymphs live underground surviving on the juices of deciduous tree roots.  After many years, they emerge - during the spring months - where upon they molt, sprout newly acquired wings, and take to the trees. In many ways the cicada is like the old historic homes we try to save and rehabilitate. After many years of laying dormant, empty, or underused - like the cicada - these properties re-emerge stronger, vibrant, more colorful.  A transformation takes place, and they become an unmistakable part of the environment, enriching the texture of the community.  They were there all along, but are now more prominent - fulfilling the next stage in their life-cycle.  Much like the cicada is the soundtrack of a southern summer, these newly transformed homes and buildings become a significant part of the urban and suburban landscape.
