In 50 years time, there will be an even higher demand for living space. The current typical flat layout will not be efficient. This project explores the extreme possibilities of high density living for one flat. Through the integration of a series of mechanical components, the flat is able to occupy a reduced footprint, but at the same time allows occupants to do as many, if not more activities as in a typical flat. One of the serious issues addressed in the UDP is the high level of juvenile crime rates.
The proposed housing development, therefore does not only accommodate basic housing needs, but also includes a sports complex and a community centre. The sports complex provides after-school activities for the youth, and the community centre is designed for the people within the wider area. A method of Mass production of standardized housing components has been developed to reduce cost; a catalogue of these components can be chosen from and configured differently to provide various results. This will give residents a higher sense of ownership over their spacially efficient homes.
