Hybrids - Degree Show Project. Ongoing.

This project considers science fiction, mythical stories and the hybrid creatures described within them. The work plays with the idea that such creatures could exist or be created in real life through genetic deformities or scientific experimentation. The representation of the creatures are created with photographs of humans which are then merged with photographs of animal eyes. The subjects within the photographs are part of the same family, this references notions of genetics and family generations passing on the traits of a hybrid. Each photograph involves the subject looking directly into the camera like a criminal mugshot or scientific documentation, confronting the viewer with the gaze of the creature. This is emphasised with the display of two photographs as banners at opposite ends of Leeds Parkinson Court. The banners represent father and son, looking at each other as well as the viewer, across the court.
Two photographs ready to be printed on large scale to present as banners.
Early work shown in Open Studios.
Book Work on display at Leeds Artist Book Fair.
