Queen Type Face Design

The challenge was to develop a typeface.

After spending some time looking at and researching fonts, I noticed that the lowercase glyphs in most display fonts were either lacking or non-existence. As not every message requires that it be yelled through type with strict uppercase, the idea was to create a font with a much more significant lowercase.

What inspired the design for this typeface was the type created for the Queen II album (shown below).

It was chosen as the starting point for it’s very unique lowercase design. The Queen logo seemed a little scripty, but was still san-serif. Though this font would be solid and not outlines. Only the u, e and n were there to concept from, and so I had to use my own intuition most of the time to design the rest of the lowercase letters. Only with those being finished, did I move on to the uppercase letters and the special glyphs to complete the set.
