The Catapult project stems from verynice.co, whom represents global design, business, and innovation consultancy specializing in solutions for social and cultural impact. Through their unique business model, they dedicate over 50% of their efforts toward pro bono services for non-profits.
That is where I come in! I had the sincerest pleasure of being a Graphic Design Mentor for these young folk and their non-profit Auris.
Auris, is derivative from latin meaning ear. Auris is a social venture that will create affordable hearing tests and hearing aids by leveraging open source hardware and software.
The team auris presented and discuss their venture at length with me. The students share their ideas and I advice them on their logo direction that best suited their venture. We then preceded in project scope walkthrough for the next 5 weeks. I did a small series of 2 logo iterations to present to the team, therefore leading a group discussion and advising the students to choose a logo that best represents their venture. Establishing a clear design choice to be implemented in the follow up mock-up. I, then presented them their final mock-up iteration of the logo chosen in the previous session; Lead a group discussion, helping the students learn to talk about the logo. The logo is a visual representation of their venture, thus guiding them in understanding the design solution and the design process that goes in it. After establishing a clear design choice to be implemented in the next design iteration, I presented them the logo in the identity system based on the previous sessions discussion. The identity system for the Catapult students includes business card design and presentation cover page. Explaining the usage of the logo, business cards, and presentation cover page. Furthermore, discussing with the group about the logo and identity system. Guiding them in understanding the final design solution and the design process that goes with it.
