As part of an overhaul of the Treasury’s working practices, its complex Grade II building at the heart of Westminster required total refurbishment. The brief was to create a pleasant, more productive working environment and simplified layout. The landscape concept transforms previously under-used courtyards into lush gardens organised to support the main axis of the new masterplan.
The west courtyard is planted with shade-loving species. Its subtly-undulating landscape forms a series of terraces with a still, reflecting pool at its centre which can be drained to accommodate gatherings.
The east courtyard is a contemporary re-interpretation of a parterre. Clipped hedges frame principal routes and reveal views into intimate garden spaces with integrated timber benches for informal meetings, reading or quiet contemplation.
