Architectural

Does architecture or interior design inspire you? It certainly does for me! This is a collection inspired by structural beams, metal sidings, bricks, glass, marble... and overtime, who knows what else?!

Over time, I will be adding all kinds of drawings to this collection.  They will be inspired by things I see in everyday life, as well as building interiors and exteriors I encounter in various magazines.  Below is a list of the magazines I find most inspiring -- not just for the work on this page and scattered in various portfolios on Behance, but also for page layout, presentations, sewing, and home decorating.

Azure, Interior Design, and Wallpaper
The Architectural Digest, The Canadian Architect, Dwell, and Mark
Adore, Cottage Living, Cottage Style, Do It Yourself, and Elle Decor
Fresh Home, House & Home, House Beautiful, and Style at Home

M is for Mondarian.  Piet Mondarian-inspired works have a sense of structure and strength.  They are positively bright and cheerful.  I love to see the red, blue, and yellow used in Moma's Mondarian tumblers, in a dress, or in stained glass.  The rectangles, squares, and straight lines are simple and elegant.

This paticular piece is Mondarian meets modern stone.  It was inspired by an April 2008 copy of The Canadian Architect, where a white stone wall framing a fireplace has one column of stones which extend outwards to form ledges.  These alternating rows of raised bricks form an elegant relief to break the monotony of a white brick wall.
For the LOVE of Architecture.  Inspired by grey pinstripe suits and architect Jacques Moussafir's La Luciole Concert Hall, as published in the December 2009 - January 2010 issue of Mark: Another Architecture.  In turn, Moussafir's "[t]wo cylinders bluntly spring[ing] from the Earth" are inspired by "the Normandy blue sky often scattered with small white clouds."
Aluminum.  Thoughts of metal sidings, rivets, and blue skies inspired this one.  I find it interesting that some modern homes will take materials from industrial settings (such as aluminum, zinc, or galvalume) and fuse it with cedar or other woods to form something pleasing to the eye.  This one is a celebration of light, form, and function.
Salmon and City Hall.  The pink marble in Edmonton's City Hall with its zebra pattern, a font typically used in hair salons, along with the interesting criss-cross of steel beams of different widths on the December 2007 cover of The Canadian Architect was the inspiration.
