Brooklyn Farm
suckerPUNCH Urban Farm Competition 2011 Entry
A self sustaining and redistributive farm. Each tower block has it's own 'flower' to produce food (and power) for the residents of that tower block. Any surplus can be sold in the farmers market. There can be a degree of friendly competition between the tower blocks to produce the best. Encourages people in each tower block to mix as well as people from different tower blocks to interact. Also allows people to take responsibility for what they grow and eat. This method requires very little in the way of storage. So this space and distribution depot is to be put to use for a new kind of farm as a 'redistributive farm'. Redistributive farming involves 'harvesting' the crop of needlessly wasted food and products that is regularly thrown away by large supermarket chains. This is where Surplus stock from that is to be disposed of by supermarkets but is still perfectly fine to consume - bottled water to washing powder- will be collected from  local supermarkets and will be collected for redistribution to low income families and individuals from Brooklyn farm
