Fully Open-Source Web-based GIS
As an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania I taught a class on Web Mapping Applications and Spatial Databases. Our semester-long project was to design and build a full open-source web based GIS, “z0”.
This involved GUIs for uploading, editing, styling, rendering and serving geospatial data content for map production. The open-source technologies leveraged included: Geoserver, OpenLayers, Postgres/Postgis, and PHP.
