Patient must be first.......Facility will be Patient/Family Centered and Physcian/Staff Friendly.
The competition was not about designing just an Emergency Department, it was about gaining an understanding of the most complicated social system humans have ever developed. The competition was also about exploring how we, as architects, might help simplify the dichotomy.
As a team, we designed an Emergency Department that would serve as a Level 1 Trauma and Burn Center as well as have the capability to increase patient intake by 200% in the event of a mass casualty event.
Healthcare design models, specifically the Plaintree Model, were utilized in patient room and spacial layout.
