Madeline Smith
Name of person interviewed: Madeline Smith
Location visited: Selleck Hall front desk
Observation and quotes: what, how and why
Madeline stated that one aspect she enjoys about her job is having plenty of time to study. She did note that the mornings are significantly busier than other parts of the day. While she prefers to study in large blocks of time, she said that sometimes having to study in incrimental chunks of time does not impact her ability to study. Madeline is a 5th year literature major so she does not need a lot of equiptment in order to study, nor does she need to utilize many resources around campus. Madeline said that working and studying on campus keeps her more focused on her work than she would be elsewhere even though she indicated that she is not easily distracgted; however she does enjoy being around other people when she studies and often visits coffee shops around campus to do homework. Finally, Madeline said that she almost never sees students studying in the lobby area of Selleck unless they are waiting for a friend--in which case they usually do not spend much time studying.
Interpretations:
We met Madeline Smith, a fith-year literature major who works at the front desk in Selleck. We were amazed to realize that students who live on campus prefer to study on campus because it keeps them focused on their work. This is significant because  it implies that being in an academic environment can influence how studious a person is.
Carmella Walsh
Name of Person Interviewed: Carmella Walsh
Location Visited: Selleck Dining Center
Observation and quotes: what, how and why
Carmella has been working Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Selleck Dining Center from 9:30 to 2:30 PM for six years.  She said that these days are less busy than Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because most people have labs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Carmella indicated that it is not uncommon at all to find students studying in the dining center. She said that almost all of the students who study in the dining center do so on their laptops and while it varies whether or not they student in groups or alone, they never seem to be distracted by their surroundings. Carmella also said that most studying occurs in the "green room" which is quieter and has large booths. Moreover, while she said it also varies how long students study for, some stay in the dining center on their laptops for several hours at a time.
Interpretations:
We met Carmella Walsh, an employee at Selleck dining center. We were amazed to realize that a sizable amount of students chose to study in the dining hall and that they do not seem to be distracted by their surroundings. This is significant because  a dining hall is not a traditional venue to study in.
Pam Carr
Name of Person Interviewed: Pam Carr
Location Visited: Morrill Hall
Observation and quotes: what, how and why
Pam works at the fron desk of Morrill hall. While, most of the students who visit the museum come with a class, a fair amount come to study or work on a project. Almost all of the students come to the museum because it has things the need specifically for a class... in other words, students very rarely come to the museum to study something unrelated to the exhibits. However, while students come to study specific fields such as art, science, or literature, students almost never come with a lot of equiptment other than a notebook or sketch pad. Pam did say that many students spend a lot of time sitting in the Planetarium if they come to work on a project. She infered that this is because it is the largest seating area in the museum. Finally, Pam stated that it doesn't seem like many students know about the museum.
Interpretations:
We met Pam Carr who works at the front desk of Morrill Hall. We were amazed to realize that while many classes come to visit the museum, only a few students come to study there and almost all of the ones who do are there for a specific reason. This is significant because  many students indicate that they prefere to study in quiet places near the center of Campus but do not know about Morrill Hall.
Allan (Interview by Casey Seline)
Name: Alan
Location Visited: The Pixel Lab
Observation and Quotes:
The Pixel Lab is a newly developed IT area that has a large amount of study space, a print shop, and a free laptop checkout center. Alan works at the laptop checkout desk. There was only one laptop left in stock when we got there, which means that that aspect of the lab is well utilized. The large study area, however, is not used often, according to Alan. He has noticed that the lab is always quiet and the students who do come to study there often stay for hours.
Interpretation:
We met Alan in the Pixel Lab in Teachers College. We were amazed to realize that this area exists and the various functions it has. This is significant because it means that though it is a great resource and study area, very few students know about it.
Claire Salem
(Interview by Casey Saline)
Name: Claire Salem
Location Visited: Union Fountain
Observation and Quotes:
Claire lives in her sorority house (Gamma Phi Beta) where it is often noisy. Because of this and because Claire is a morning person, she wakes up at 5:30am every day to study. Claire prefers to study by herself, though she said subjects involving logic or math require help from other people. Claire procrastinates writing essays, once only getting one hour of sleep after waiting until the night before a due date to start a ten-page paper. Girls in her sorority do not have required study hours unless their grades cause concern, though by studying in the house, each member gets points that go toward picking which room they will live in.
Interpretation:
We met Claire Salem. We were amazed to realize that she wakes up at 5:30am just to study every morning. This is significant because it means that sorority houses are not condusive to all members' study habits.
Michaela Niemeyer
(Interview by Casey Seline)
Name: Michaela Niemeyer
Location Visited: Union Fountain, "Beat..." T Shirt stand
Observation and Quotes:
Michaela is a member of Scarlet Guard and an athletic trainer. Much of her time is spent being a trainer, but she does get credits for it. She has never been inside the library at UNL, saying that she prefers to study in her room, usually, because she can control that environment more in terms of noise. Anatomy is her toughest class;  she spent twelve straight hours studying it on the previous Sunday. She believes these study habits will pay off in the future because they apply to what she wants to do.
Interpretation:
We met Michael Niemeyer. We were amazed to realize that though she spends a lot of time doing activities other than studying, they can apply to her studies. This is significant because it means that being very involved on campus does not have to impede on studying.
