This is one of the classical subject called form studies in the discipline of Industrial Designing. This has always helped me to see through the veils of my own presumptions and ignorance. I think ,for the discipline such as Design whose definition changes as per the contexts of various parameters it becomes important for always keep grinding the fundamentals.
Understanding and translating the nature Dominance in design language....
SPACE, LINE, FORM, COLOUR, TEXTURE are considered to be the defining elements of design. These elements influences each other consecutively. Here I will be exploring the influence of line (linearity) over form.
Form has an value of existence which we term it as meaning. Anything that has a meaning would be called as form. Now meaning could be interpreted in debatable ways; lets not open that door for now.
Every element in design are always influenced be aesthetic and functional aspects of anything in order to design and exist. HERE USER IS THE GOD.
Dominance in forms could be expressed with the various natures of linearities(line), aesthetically and functionally.
Aesthetically it is expressed by volumes of various dimensions.( concerning more with its visual appearance, psychological and emotional aspects, etc.)
Functionally it is expressed by mass ( concerning more with technicalities, feasibility, sustainability, engineering and technological aspects, etc.)
Both of this leaves a certain density of mark/change in user which in turns helps in deciding was the product design successful or not.
Abstraction is one of the process of empathizing the rectilinearity in the products around us. This helps in application of academia into practical use.
