Motherboard AR/XR Application

"REVEAL"
A project which I completed as part of Year 1 BA Graphic and Media Design at London College of Communication (UAL).

The brief I was given for “Reveal” was no longer than 8 words - “Analyse a hidden surface, revealing its hidden qualities”. The only other requirement was to combine two mediums of our choice for the final outcome.

For my hidden surface, I chose a motherboard after having seen the green of the components underneath a fan vent of a computer. After researching what the most commonly found motherboard design is, I modelled a simplified version of the ATX layout in Blender:
Rendered using Cycles - model available for download via Sketchfab
I then imported this model into Unity to build a mixed reality app for the Meta Quest 3 using the Oculus SDK.

This app reveals a motherboard through a hand-tracked, gesture based tutorial, which runs a user through what it is, how it works and what each key component does, as well as allowing them to "pick up" and interact with the board as though it were a real physical object.

App also available to download on App Labs via the Meta Quest Store :)
