Eco Envoy : Ecosystem Teaching Toolkit

Design Concept

EcoEnvoy is an ecosystem instructional material that combines an animal puzzle game and a balancing game.
Through interaction and experiences during the game, EcoEnvoy provides the education of ecological conservation. Also, players can understand environmental issues and methods to adapt and mitigate the current situations.
In addition, they can also explore different species in the world and our Mother Nature with a more relaxed and interesting way.
There are two ways to play this game. These two game modes not only provide a better understanding of ecology
but also broaden children’s global perspective.
Through the game, children can develop a positive concept of ecological conservation from an early age.
Background Introduction

Degradation and fragmentation of forest and grassland habitats in the Asia-Pacific region has led to widespread declines in wild mammals and birds, with overall species at risk of extinction.
Man-made extinction rates are 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than natural extinction rates due to human-induced habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and overhunting.
Workflow

1. Market Research on Environmental Education and Current Conservation Status of Natural Ecologies.
2. Listing and Summarizing Animal Species and Quantities in Various Habitats.
3. Brainstorming two different gameplay mechanics connected to environmental issues.
4. Drawing the shapes of 28 animals in a puzzle format.
5. 3D Modeling and Printing, experimenting with the gameplay mechanics of a balancing game.
6. Packaging Box and Card Design.
7. Educational Tool Photography.
GAME A
EDUCATIONAL PUZZLE
GAME GOALS AND METHODS

Players play the role of ecosystem conservationists in the game,
and put 28 species into the puzzle to complete the appearance of the complete ecosystem.

GAME VALUE

The complete educational puzzle in the game symbolizes the entire ecosystem.
Children can understand that the ecosystem is composed of all species in different growth environments.
If one species is missing in the ecosystem, it will be as incomplete as if there is one missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle. The notion that all species on Earth are indispensable.
GAME B
BALANCE GAME
GAME GOALS

Players play the role of ecosystem restorers in the game,
and place designated species on the balance board through different environmental event cards.
The balance must be maintained during the placement process.
When all species are placed on the balance board, the game success.

GAME VALUE

The balance board in the game symbolizes the ecosystem waiting to be restored.
In the game, children try to restore different species in the ecosystem.
While restoring species, the existing environment should not be out of balance.
If the balance board is lost, it means the collapse of the ecosystem.
The environment must be filled with more vitality while maintaining balance.
The game process can not only understand the environment in which different species grow, but also allow children to understand the definition of ecological diversity and the importance of species balance.
ENVIRONMENTAL EVENT CARDS

The event card includes events that affect the rainforest, grassland and polar environment.
Through the game, you can learn about the positive and negative impact of the event on the environment,
such as overfishing, logging and illegal poaching issues, and understand the current international environmental issues and trends.
