‘Dhoop’ is a lyrical illustration of one of the many domestic handcrafts that is usually absent from the discussion of mainstream craft discourse.

Centered around the ancient town of Bharmour, in the remote mountains of Himachal Pradesh, this documentary presents the making of ‘dhoop-batti’. The film honours the indigenous knowledge of the Gaddi tribe.

The repetitive process of pounding and grinding by hand is a metaphor for the daily chores and the diligent way of Gaddi life that is intertwined with the environment and folklore.
