Surveillance and Storytelling

Reflection
The whole motive behind CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) cameras is to have a proactive surveillance of all the illicit activities and prevent mishaps before it gets worse. Durham College is known for its safe and sound environment by having fully advanced surveillance cameras all over the place. After wandering for quite a bit, I happened to spot a perfect camera glaring right outside the main circle of the college, and in front there was a tree without any leaves.
By giving the point of focus (camera) a perfect depth of field, having the branches in the foreground and the camera in mid.
Throughout this assignment, I was mindful of my depth of field, focus and settings. In the second image, I have shot a speed camera on the main road not too far away from the college. My sole purpose was to show the camera in the low third of the frame, and kept the remaining space for a moving car, which I snapped setting up my shutter speed at considerably high amount so that, I could easily freeze the moving car right beside the camera.
Surveillance cameras are our safety nets; therefore, they are in every shape and form, protecting us live by causing an alert of prevention. Subsequently, in my third picture, I purposely wanted the college name in the background and the cameras in foreground depicting the safe environment for student in Durham college. The positioning of the cameras is very important, as it shows the calculative decisions of where things could potentially go wrong and threatening towards students. Speaking about editing mindset behind these pictures, I could only think of making all the pictures look cinematic and look like they are pulled off from a sci-fi or thriller movie. Not making it look too unreal, but impactful.
