Accessibility Audit of Web-Based Product

Accessibility Audit of Web-Based Product
Project Background
HappyCo, a real estate tech company, was about to undertake a full refresh of its primary web-based product. The product design system was also being reviewed. In the past, little consideration for accessibility had been given. However, with a growing customer base, inclusive design was becoming increasingly important. Therefore, a baseline of current standards and a high level accessibility audit was undertaken with a team of designers and engineers to establish current standards and create momentum for future improvements.
My Role
I led this project with assistance from internal advocates, internal experts and people living with disability. I upskilled on WCAG accessibility guidelines through a mentoring opportunity, and educated the design team on its framework and potential. Following on from this, I organised a group of advocates, including engineers and product managers, to perform a high level audit on current accessibility standards of the product we were developing and formalised next steps. My efforts led to tangible improvements to the product and company website, and had a positive impact on the mindset of our team.
