Baskets on the beach are a common sight at many seaside resorts. The sight of wicker baskets on the beaches no longer surprises anyone, they have become a popular way to store your things.
Their history dates back to the 19th century, when the German basketball player and basket maker Wilhelm Bartelmann from Rostock was asked by the aristocrat Elfriede von Maltzahn to create a comfortable seat for sunbathing.
In the 20th century, beach baskets also became popular in the United States, where they were often called "beach chairs" or "cabanas".
As an interesting fact, in Japan beach baskets are often made of rice paper.
