Global Warming Infographic and Explainer Video

For our infographic and video, we had to research on the current topics and find our infomation from credible source like The Straits Times. I chose to focus more about nature and the environment.
The reason for the change in topic

The inital topic had too many point to be able to compress into a single infographic. Moreover, the article also included other topics of global warming alongside the topic of wildlife to urban areas.

The second chosen topic had a clear and decisive direction and could be compressed into an infographic using a comparison infographic.
The points: Summarised
8 Thumbnail sketches of the infographic.

I went for the thumbnail in the middle as it had a big hero image which can catch the attention of my audience and draw them into my infographic.
Moodboard:
Striking monochromatic colours, it catches attention with colours and easy to understand at a first glance.

Minimalistic graphics are also not too distracting and readers can also focus on the info.
Work In Progress

For my first draft, I envisioned the infographic's colours to be split in half and the darker side would represent the 2 degrees of warming. However, it look similar to the flag of Greenland (right) and the overall look did not show that one side was hotter than the other.

Improved and Finalised Version:

- Changed pointers to thinner and dotted lines so it doesnt resemble a bug
- Reduced margin size
- Increased title size (1.5 vs 2.0 part)
- Reduced saturation of background colour (Previous BG looked too bright when printed)
Storyboarding of the explainer video
Experimenting with how to show the 70% of coral reefs disappearing. I knew what I had to show the ‘70%’ part but didnt know how to show the ‘coral reefs disappearing’ part. So it just stuck out weirdly.

In the end I found that I could have the coral disappear according to the percentage increase be the most effective way.
I explored the use of Adobe Audition to create a clear and clean voice. I did this through the use of the de-noiser and de-clicker options in Adobe Audition. The end result was a crisp voice recording which I was very happy with.
