# Video streaming OTT design
ABP Live is a subscription free, advertisers driven video-streaming OTT for News and infotainment. Under their brand umbrella, they have a complex brand hierarchy :
– 8 regional sub brands,
– 9 niche category channels under each sub-brand
– 3 sub formats of videos (live stream, video-on-demand, reels)

During the complete Redesign exercise of ABP LIVE (for the complete case study of the redesign please refer to the previous post on Behance or just click on the above link), the requirement was to design a Video streaming OTT & Movie Reviews platform design.
Solution
On doing competitor’s analysis, the experience design of video streaming platforms of global news platforms looked very neutral. But the brand philosophy of ABP Live had DRAMA in it’s dna. Therefore, our initial vision was to build an visual experience similar to Netflix or Amazon Prime, if not better.

We designed several prototypes accordingly. But we kept hitting a wall. We realised that the backend technology and algorithm of the content’s distribution, specially on Google, precisely defined the mandates of front end design.

The thing is, as per standard global practice, digital news platforms depend on
– search engines (like Google),
– social media platforms (like Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Glance) and
– collaborations with Connected devices (like Xiaomi, Samsung) to reach their consumers.

Finally, we ended up designing an experience similar to YOUTUBE because that way we could comply with all mandates of Google search engine, Google Discover and all other social media platforms.
