The refrigeration process requires the exchange of heat, just as the innovation process requires the exchange of ideas. This is achieved in refrigeration by passing a fluid through the arteries of the mechanism in such a way that it will interact with the entire device. These arteries are created through the use of open atria that connect all members of the team, and inspire collaboration and creativity.
The atrium spaces encircle the laboratories and clean room, which inspires creativity in the employees and provides a focus for their work. The labs are also glazed so the work being done inside can become a catalyst for innovation out of the lab. This also provides a unique space for the employees to meet and discuss projects and ideas.
From the outside, the building will reside subtly in the trees, and blend into the industrial neighborhood in which it is located. The atria, however, will provide an energizing experience for employees and visitors. The atria will also allow maximum sunlight penetration into the office areas while minimizing heat gain. The storm water retention pond on site will also be used as a heat sink for the building’s cooling system.
