"Calas" is a jewelry project based on the idea of the modular design. I started from the drawing of a circle, which I then cut in half and folded. When the pieces are put together, the resultant figures are reminiscent of water lilies, also known as Calas.

It is a small collection consisting of earrings and a necklace, conceived to be made in whitened silver. It is very delicate and elegant, and the pieces are ergonomic and comfortable.
The calla lily, or water lily, is a herbaceous plant that gives us a beautiful flowering every year at the beginning of spring.
This plant, from African countries, is very present in our popular imagination. Painted by Georgia O'Keefe, we discover the sensuality of its detail, and these fleshy flowers are inevitably linked to love and death, as they are always present in wedding and funeral arrangements.
This jewelry set made of sterling silver and silk, refers to the coves in its modular design through curves and color. The choker and earrings combine perfectly in a floral design
delicate and elegant.

In this collection, the circle, a divine form, gives rise to creation, and a snip in the middle returns it to an earthly plane. Folded at one of its vertices, it becomes a flower and roots itself to that earth from which it claimed to be superior.
Within the modular design, symmetry and the change in size and position of the same figure are played with. A complex shape reminiscent of a flower emerges from a single module.
The colors, materials, and finishes refer to the water lily, its folds, and its delicacy. The feeling that the jewelry transmits is ethereal and elegant. As a reference for this collection, it is worth mentioning Kayo Saito and his extremely fine metal work.

The pieces, thanks to their lightness and mobility, are ergonomic and very comfortable both for use on special occasions and daily. The necklace is articulated around a green silk ribbon, by sewing the pieces to it. Thus, the choker fits perfectly to any neck, and can even be used as a bracelet. The earrings, whose structure is more rigid, are held to the ear using what is known as a pressure closure, which uses a nut to ensure the closure and that the jewel is not lost.
The jewels mock-up was made using cardboard, fabric, acrylic paint, glue and varnish.
The “Calas” set is designed to be made on silver plates 0.7 millimeters thick, a necessary measure for the lightness of the jewelry itself, a quality that is very relevant in earrings. Circles of various sizes (2 cm, 1.5 cm, and 1.2 cm radius) will be drawn on the silver plates and divided in the center, which will then be cut following the drawn contour. Once we have the semicircles, we will file the contours and proceed to shape them with the pliers, turning from one of the vertices to the middle of the semicircle.
To make the earrings we will weld the 1.5 cm pieces inside the 2cm pieces, and then these to the circular base of the earring, where the closure is located.
To make the necklace we will weld handles to each of the pieces, two in the largest pieces, since then we will sew each metal piece to a green silk ribbon.
The finish of the pieces would be that of the bleached silver itself, in the whitening once it has cooled. This process will be repeated at least seven times to achieve a thick and resistant layer of white.

To make these earrings, recycled silver will be used, coming from certified sources and for which traceability can be carried out from the moment it was obtained.

Regarding the packaging, this will also be made thinking about
sustainability, reusing cardboard from various origins (such as shipping packages, and food boxes...), and making simple packaging with folds in the lower part that hold the “lid”. In a sustainable design such as the one intended, other elements such as plastics, and velvets will be dispensable.
