A short history of the brickworks in Chodzież

The closing of the last brickyard in Chodzież marks the end of an era in the city's history.
Bricks, which for almost two centuries were one of the most important industrial products in Chodzież, used to build houses, public and industrial facilities, have become a thing of the past, just like the brickyards themselves, of which there were several in Chodzież.
In 1890, the Łukowski family established a brickyard on Fabryczna Street, which produced bricks from clay extracted from nearby mines.
Production was carried out using traditional methods, using wooden furnaces. During its operation, it employed approximately 200 employees.
In 1990, the brickyard was closed.
A similar fate befell the brickyard at Buczkowska Street in Chodzież, which was closed in 2015.
Another and the largest brickyard in the same city, located on Topolowa Street, suffered the same sad fate.
All these factories that operated for over 100 years produced bricks from boulder clay that was located nearby.
Until recently, paintball competitions were organized on the premises of this last brickyard, or rather in its ruins.
Currently, in the place where the old brickyard once stood, a housing estate and another large-scale store have been built.
No tangible or physical form of activity of the brickyard in Chodzież has survived to this day.
All that remains are the memories of former employees, who will soon be gone, and a handful of private photos that I presented.
