2023
A lonely old man returns to his most important memories and comes into conflict with himself. It's time to take stock of life, but he doesn't want to admit the obvious.
It was necessary to find a visual solution for the painting to create a sense of emptiness in the cluttered room. We paid particular attention to texture. We worked on everything, from the walls to the main character's clothing, carefully selecting items in the environment.Since the work was meticulous, we decided to film the movie in a studio.
The decision to shoot on film was made to breathe life into these textures. This is because the grain, color, and halftones it provided created an entirely new image that digital cameras couldn't achieve.
To enhance the "Film Effect," we decided to use expired film. We used film that was 18 years old and had previously belonged to the great cinematographer Eduard Rozovsky. This film produced the special distorted colors and coarse grain that were needed for this film.
The main difficulty was that there were only 40 iso and 4 stops of dynamic range left on the film, so I couldn't make any mistakes.
This project was my first experience working with film. To successfully complete it, I had to acquire skills in loading film, performing technical maintenance and repairs on the film camera, studying sensitometry to analyze test image graphs, and mastering the art of proper exposure. I also had to understand manual lens adjustment and equip the camera with video capture systems.
This project proved to be extremely valuable and engaging for me, enriching my professional skills. I am fully satisfied with the results of this work.
