Leisure and Labor are two interdependent concepts, and their interconnection dates back to ancient times. The Quixotic Assembly lives off the idea that one day, due to the rampant rise in technology and automation, labor will probably stop being the center of human activity.¹
With that possibility, some inevitable questions start to arise — What is the future of leisure? What is the future of work? Are we bound to lose a place in the world? Will we lose our sense of purpose?
Therefore, TQA seeks to dissect the relation between these two concepts and speculate the leisure of the future by inciting dialogue and questioning a physical and non-physical space. It not only is a reflection on pain as well as discomfort, the unavoidable sense of helplessness, lack of meaning, desire and drive that comes with uncertainty and transformation.
¹ This belief is rooted in the main events currently faced by the West, such as technology’s influence in our day-to-day lives — and therefore the ever-growing automation of the workforce — but also due to globalization and precarious work conditions that result in labor rights movements trying to refute the current status of the working class. These are ultimately fueled by the cultural, socio-economic and political system in which the Western World operates — capitalism.
