The history of porcelain in Chodzież

Chodzież is a beautiful, picturesque town located in Northern Greater Poland, on the edge of the central Noteć ice-marginal valley, about 30 km south of Piła and 70 km north of Poznań.
It is located in the Chodzieskie Lake District, between the lakes: Chodzieskie (also called Miejskie), Strzelecki and Karczewnik, by the national road No. 11.
The first written mention of Chodzież comes from 1403. It received city rights in 1434 from King Władysław Jagiełło.
Chodzież is a city with a rich history, which for over 150 years has been inextricably linked with the production of faience and then porcelain.
The first porcelain factory in Chodzież was established in 1852, where faience was produced, and in 1896 the production of porcelain began.
In its heyday, there were 5 porcelain production plants in Chodzież, and in 1977, as many as 3,033 workers were employed.
On July 1, 2000, plant no. 1 was sold to Stamar from Wejherowo, and since then it has been increasingly in debt.
Currently, all porcelain factories in Chodzież are closed, and since June 2020, porcelain has not been produced here.
