RIGHT TO SPACE
Mysore, Karnataka, India
2019

The intent of the intervention is to bring about a sense of social equity to the citizens of the city of Mysore and to improve the lingering spaces in the heart of the city.

This is intended, as it is derived from observations that the average citizen that visits the city center does not spend time there, and limits their visit only until the work is done, as there is not enough well shaded public spaces with easy and quick access to parking, shopping, recreation and public transport.

The citizens that come to the CBD for leisure mostly do so in their own vehicles and tend to zoom past the area and do not stop to walk around and experience the space.

It is only the tourists that are seen walking around the region, looking relaxed and with an intent to explore the space, the rest always seen to be in a hurry to get out of the area as soon as possible.

The intervention makes a statement, reflecting the ideals of a forward looking society, this is achieved by designing spaces to ensuring social equity and democracy of spaces.

The peoples right to public spaces has a multitude of benefits for both the people and the city, some of which is as follows:
- It improves social contact and helps people get to know the community better
- It familiarizes the people with the material and cultural aspects of the city
- It allows people to express and discuss their views and also provides a platform for activism and protests
