I like to sharpen my skills in spare time by taking some challenges, I found the original design showcased in Archdaily, I built the model in AutoCAD and rendered it in 3DS MAX + Mental Ray, I tried to mimic the lighting in this photo, I used same model/material in the daylight render.
I used a skylight with HDRI for overall lighting + very weak daylight system to add some soft shadows
Here I used Daylight System only
If I'm the architect, I'd choose a colored glass for the windows to show the ranom opaque-transperant walls
