Thar is the most populated desert in the world, shared by India and Pakistan. People here have been living in harmony with the natural world for ages keeping their carbon footprint at minimal. However, now the habitant of Thar are among the first ones to face the dire consequences of climate change with much severity.

Rajasthan in general is struggling with illegal mining in the mineral rich Aravalli ranges and large scale deforestation. The ancient range acts as a natural barrier between the Thar and the Gangetic plains, which has reduced drastically in the last 20 years. The desert is spreading east into cities like Delhi and Gurgaon. More severe sand storms in the summer months are just one consequence of this.
