3rd Year: Micro Housing (Construction Documents)

This purposefully designed micro housing project in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn is tailored to meet the specific needs of artists. The apartments are carefully designed with shared living and dining areas and inviting balconies, while also providing comfortable and private bedrooms, kitchens, private dining spaces, and bathrooms. Inspired by the Villa Rotunda designed by Andrea Palladio, the project incorporates a sense of proportion, with the dimensions of the apartments being multiples of 3.5.

The architectural design of the project showcases a captivating feature—a visually striking glass box nestled at the centre of two apartment units, forming the shared living and dining space. This glass box formed by nana doors and glass walls (using one-way glass to preserve privacy) serves as a focal point, allowing ample natural light to illuminate the shared area, resulting in an open and spacious ambiance. It also acts as a unifying element, seamlessly connecting the adjacent apartments.
Beyond individual living spaces, the building offers larger shared studios on each floor, providing artists with ample room to immerse themselves in their creative projects and bring their artistic visions to life. Additionally, art display spaces are integrated, allowing residents to showcase their artwork and engage with the wider community. This integration of shared studio spaces and art display areas enhances the communal nature of the project, fostering artistic interactions, mentorship opportunities, and the growth of creativity among the residents.
The structure of this building are intended to be customised prefabricated concrete members. Attached Below are the structural drawings:
