Remembering the Great War in Scotland

Rachel Barclay is an Aberdeen-based photographer, whose work mainly consists of architecture and landscape photography.

Her previous projects include Postcards of the UK, an architectural based project looking at famous landmarks across key cities within the UK, inspired by her love for both travelling and architecture. She has also worked on a product-based project, titled, Introducing Chippie Beer, a locally based craft beer brand owned by a local professional golfer. Through this project she worked with third- and fourth-year students on Robert Gordon University’s Digital Marketing course, assisting them in producing an advertising campaign for the Chippie Beer brand.

Rachel’s latest project, titled, Remembering the Great War in Scotland, looks at the concept of Remembrance around the City of Aberdeen after the end of the First World War and how it is something that is still prominent within society, more than 105 years since its end. She chose this project as the Armed Forces and Remembrance has been such an important part of her life for several years and is something that she has such a personal connection to. It was only fitting for Rachel to incorporate this into her work, something she had wanted to do for a number of years.

In this project, she is exploring the emotions and impact that her images evoke with the viewer. Rachel wants to immerse the viewer in the experience of looking at images connected to such an important point in history.
