Santo Domingo Pueblo Housing Master Plan

Santo Domingo Pueblo Housing Master Plan
Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM
Plan completed while working at Atkin Olshin Schade Architects
Role in Project: Graphics, Design Development, Construction Document Coordination
AOS Architects designed a long term Master Plan for over 300 new housing units. The chosen site is approximately 400 acres, and it has historically been a grazing area and was never developed.

It is intended that this project will be built in phases with infrastructure, including unpaved roads appropriate for the rural area, walking and biking paths, sports facilities, utilities and open space, approximately 30-60 homes per phase.  The Housing Authority plans to construct the future homes using an environmentally sensitive product produced by the Navajo Nation called Flexcrete.

The development presents a wonderful opportunity for the Santo Domingo Pueblo to embrace sustainable design and community living.  The "clustering" of new homes, integration of trails and pathways throughout the site, and water retention plans will respect the existing landscape and allow for direct connection to remain with open space and view corridors.  At least 90% of the homes will be designed for passive solar orientation.
