LOUGHBOROUGH'S GRAPHIC HERITAGE

LOUGHBOROUGH'S GRAPHIC HERITAGE
This university project required us to explore Loughborough's graphic heritage, eventually selecting one aspect and creating a number of touchpoint designs inspired by it. This project focused on the influence of Ladybird Books on Loughborough's graphic heritage.
This project required the creation of a poster design, a Facebook banner and a design for a piece of merchandise.
The research stage of this project included visiting sites around Loughborough significant in the history of Ladybird books, along photographing graphic heritage, such as murals, statues and benches, that are the result of Ladybird Books’ presence within the town.
This research was distilled into the final outcomes. The simple, vector-based illustrations that act as the main feature of my outcomes are each based on either an aspect of Ladybird Books’ history in relation to Loughborough or a way in in which it has influenced its graphic heritage. For example, the paint brush is a nod to The Ladybird Collective, a street art group who paint mural around the Loughborough and whose name is inspired by the town’s connection with Ladybird Books. The squares which frame each illustration were inspired by the windows of Ladybird House, the factory built by the publishing house, which still stands in Loughborough today.
