Archicep - Social Housing Development

Intro _ Archicep is a district located in the north of Reggio Calabria, Italy, at an altitude of 10m above sea level. It's a social housing complex with evident degradation. The project is development and re-design of the heart of the district, where the town church, and commercial / mixed use buildings are found.

Existing typology _ The architect Saul Greco created a different typology for each function where form creates a visual identity for the building, residential buildings are collected in courtyard shaped blocks, buildings that serve a commercial or mixed purpose have a linear stick form.
Strategy
Masterplan _ Simple but effective actions are made to find solutions to various problems, such as, the abuse of retaining walls instead of considering the slopey nature of south Italy in the design, and the lack of connectivity between different locations within the district.
Plan _ An important aspect in the development strategy is efficiency, where so structural elements where changed, only light elements are removed or modified.
