VISITOR CENTER DESIGN

A Year 3 Design.

The Celestial Visitor is a visitor centre that responds to the high demand and requirements of a newly developed village. Based on the historical stone mill culture of the area and the current situation of the stone mill site not far from the site, the building is designed as a combination of disc and rectangular interlocking volumes like an extraterrestrial guest, interspersed with water features and interactive spaces in the stream, as an echo and reminder of the water mill.

The building itself, as a visitor centre, with its special monolithic mass and form, and its wide, piazza-like ground space, gives it the considerable landmark it deserves, like a star in the night, guiding visitors in the form of a special sign, and in this way providing a space for local residents to be active and interactive.

An innovative combination of man-made geometric architecture and natural landscaping, Celestial Visitor creates an environment where people and nature can interact, with water features and natural vegetation complementing each other to provide visitors with a classical Chinese garden-like experience.

Celestial Visitor 是为应对全新发展的村落所带来的强需求与高要求的游客服务的游客中心。基于当地历史悠久的石碾文化与场地不远处的石碾遗址的现状，建筑被设计为一个有如天外来客一般的圆盘与矩形交错体量的组合体，其间穿插溪地水景与互动空间，作为水碾的呼应与回忆。

建筑本身作为游客中心，其特殊的单体巨大的体量与形态，以及空阔的广场式地面空间，为其带来了应有的相当地标性，有如夜幕星辰，以特别的标志的形式为游客指引，也以此为当地居民提供了活跃与互动的空间。

创新性地将人工几何式的建筑与自然地景相结合，Celestial Visitor 营造了人与自然互动的良好环境，水景与自然植景相得益彰，使到访者可获得中国古典式园林式的空间体验。
