Frankfurt International School - Model United Nation Poster
1. What was your inspiration for creating this artwork, and how did you decide on the style and medium?

My concepts were inspired by this year's theme: "Sustainable responses to humanitarian crises." Through my communication with Ms.Jessome, I grasped the idea of human unity "against" natural disasters and global conflicts. However, we created these problems and, therefore, our power to change and global issues are intertwined. The keyword "intertwine" helped me to develop the composition, with water (a symbol for natural disasters and change) and trees (sustainability and hope) wrapping around each other. The two elements are also personified to highlight humans' important role in change and conflicts. The lines and textures are naturally my style of drawing, and the color scheme is mostly neutral and easy for the eyes. The poster was done digitally so I could easily change the colors and layers to see what works best.

2. How does this artwork reflect the values or mission of FIS MUN, and what message do you hope to convey through it?

This artwork highlights that through discussions regarding current and past issues, we can understand the complications and guide us to think about how we can change for the better. FIS MUN gives students an opportunity to speak for different countries and understand different perspectives. I hope my artwork can highlight this great program at our school and help start conversations. I used the sun on the left, faced by the face, to represent the hope in our responses and solutions to the problems. I also think it is important to see that we are all human and we are trying our best to balance our desires and solutions.
3. How do you see this artwork contributing to the FIS MUN community, and what impact do you hope it will have?

I hope this artwork can help them recall this year's conference more vividly while associating it with their memories. Perhaps it will be easier for the FIS MUN community to talk about the discussions with people outside of the conference because this artwork can act as a conversation starter. Talking about the issues we face is already a step forward to stimulating change.

4. What role do you believe art can play in promoting global understanding and diplomacy, and how does this artwork embody that role?

First of all, I think this is a great question I have not pondered before in depth. I simply created art as a personal expression or representing an issue that I care about. However, I do think art can play a unique role in promoting global understanding because art can transcend languages and cultures and help the audience resonate with the message more intimately. Art can also put the truth of our situations on the table, but it can be presented in a subtle way. We can only become better if we see what we are like. Moreover, art can connect reason and emotion, promote diversity and inclusion, and encourage dialogue between nations. Although art can sometimes idealize reality, I think there is no harm in portraying hope because humans often need motivation and inspiration to drive them forward. This artwork presents a combination of our problems and our power to change, which effectively embodies art's role on a global scale.
