ROW HOUSE: One Vertical Section

“Shakhari Bazar” is one the oldest place and densely populated area in Dhaka City. However, the lack of space for infrastructure has created a unique architecture dialogue here. Most of the buildings of “Shakhari Bazar” shares common wall with their neighbors' building, which is called row house. One of the most challenging factor of designing a row house is insufficient building width. Besides, ensuring proper ventilation becomes a uphill struggle. In this project, I designed a residence with a café in the ground floor. I created a court space which acts as a light well for the narrow café. Moreover, shallow water body of the court space allows passive cooling in the building.
