Poster - Endangered

This project was for Raster Graphics I at Ivy Tech Community College. It won the Best of Jury in the poster category at the Fall 2022 Visual Communications Juried Competition held at Ivy Tech. The purpose of this assignment was to create a poster about climate change or something in that genre. I decided to go with saving the sea turtles and keep the design fairly simple while having the large "endangered" wording to make a bold statement.
My Process:
I started out with typing the word ENDANGERED in all caps and getting it in the position I wanted it, I wanted it to take up almost the whole poster and still be very readable, but I also really liked breaking it up to take up more space. After playing with the kerning and size and position I landed on this.
From there I knew I wanted the turtle to look like it was coming through a letter, rather than just resting on the top so I put in a water background and began masking the turtle in.
I made several adjustments to the turtle until I got it to the look I really wanted, and added a light shadow under to help it still feel underwater even though a large part of it is over top of the letters.
I added a drop shadow to the letters
I added the “Skip the Straw. Save my life.” To give an action step, as well as talk about the problem in a very simple and direct way. I added the background turtles, and it was complete.
