Urban Wetlands: NOLA's Upper Ninth Ward

A final phase of the project proposal includes a significant portion of the below sea level site returned to wetlands for storm water retention, featuring publicly accessible trails and marshfront property.
The first phase of the project proposal includes the development of a soft edge for the Upper Ninth Ward, reclaiming some properties abandoned since Katrina in 2005.
The second phase includes further attrition and the expansion of the wetlands retention, introducing a canal system to drain stormwater from still viable areas of the ward on the surface. As development expands to the south, along the Mississippi, property is expected to continue abandonment patterns at this 25-year phase.
The final phase of the proposal, nearly a century from the project's inception, recognizes continued disinvestment in built infrastructure and the restoration of ecological importance with in the site as a model for the development of the metro.
The topography of the city of New Orleans, drawn to emphasize areas below sea level.
A symbiotic nature relating a new vernacular architecture into the wet landscape emerges in phase two.
