Blue Flame // The Station

The Station is a device from Blue Flame that plugs into your power outlet and charges your smartphone while giving your phone some place to dock. I came up with several of our initial concepts this device. We wanted something that would eliminate the need for cables and would be convenient to use. We also wanted to include a second outlet on the device so you could plug something else into it and not take up both wall sockets.
While sketching, I examined different methods of containing the smartphone so that it would not fall out, but would also be easy to grasp. I also experimented with placements for the additional outlet that would be inconspicuous and out of the way without compromising the aesthetic values of the device.
Besides coming up with several of the initial concepts, I also worked back and forth with our engineering team in China to check (and tweak) 3D models to make sure everything was OK to send to the factories.
The version currently on the market has a lightning connector and is for the iPhone. I also helped work on a micro-USB version for other smart phones, and a version that would accomodate tablets. Both of which are still in development.
