Re-Designed Condo Unit

Re-Designed Condo Unit
spdc plate 01: A re-designed interior condo unit from first year college.
The interior design elements were redirected from the usual green-design of incorporating the usual wood and earth toned space but enabled a different design style while still maintaining sustainability of the area by using non-harmful processed materials and showcasing biophilic design elements. A chic-inspired design style was proposed in the interior space to allow a fresh and new look of the unit. The design concept of the interior space features the idea of a Boba Milk Tea. It represents the concept of how students incorporate get-togethers, breaktimes, or even study hours through Milk Tea cafes or even a to-go milk tea drink on the way to school.

The space encompasses a lively yet relaxing area for the user to take a break while also creating an encouraging environment to cultivate productivity as well as creativity. The neutral colorways of muted gray tones with a touch of a rusty brown coral palette exhibits a combination of comfort and movement.
The profile user of the space is a 20 year old female College Interior Design student with an 8am-7pm schedule of school hours during weekdays. User tends to stay in her condo during her break time and weekends, and goes back to her province once/twice a month. She also seldom has visitors and often uses her time in her condo relaxing and working.

Organic linen is used in pillow covers since linen eco-friendly because it lasts long and is biodegradable. Bed sheets and bed covers were made from organic cotton for its material is ethically farmed using ways that do not harm the earth, and it is completely pesticide and toxin-free. Organic cotton addresses environmental concerns using alternative green practices—by using crop rotation methods that do not deplete nutrients from the soil, for instance, and by using only natural pesticides instead of chemicals.

Walls and ceilings exhibits Non-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint since VOCs are toxic to humans, animals and the environment. Hence, choosing Non-VOC paints establishes a better choice for considering sustainability since they aren't considered hazardous waste. Bamboo wood is a material known for its durability and strength. It's also resistant to swelling and shrinking. Likewise, it is also flexible and versatile in incorporating it into a more sustainable interior design space. This material is used for the flooring pattern. Recycled glass used in dividers is a sustainable material because of its versatility. Also, when it eventually ends up in landfills, it doesn't harm the environment.

Terrazzo uses scraps of marble, quartz, granite or recycled glass chips, poured with a cement binder to form a composite material.  The space used terrazzo for the bathroom shower walls and the kitchen countertops. It uses materials that emit zero VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and makes good use of waste scraps that would otherwise be discarded—making it one of the most environmentally friendly material options for interior designing.

The interior design targets the "Sustainable Development Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being" as the space establishes comfort and ease for the user while also creating an encouraging environment making room for productivity and creativity. it helps in relaxing the mental state of the user while also cultivating a more capable and pro-active mind. The use of sustainable materials manifest the goal of creating sustainable areas/spaces or "Sustainable Development Goal #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities" as it diverts to an eco-friendly take on how to make a studio condo unit less harmful for the environment with the limited and restricted materials provided.
