GRA 121: Design Principles Lowercase Letterform Studies
The student continue to gain sensitivity in letterform design with lower case letters. This project started by considering the final upper case H from the summer. Then we selected an appropriate x height to draw the letter n in Adobe Illustrator to the right of the H from the summer course. Also making sure that it makes sense together with the H. Repeating this process with the following letters in this sequence: n, o, u, g, r, d. Beginning with the H and n, each letter must be drawn next to the previous letters with letter spacing and counterform proportional to the H lower counterform: Hnnougrd (the second ‘n’ helps to understand the letterspace/counterform relationship).

Examining the n bezier points
All letters are drawn in Adobe Illustrator at 100% with a cap height of 100 mm. When presenting to instructor it helps to show both a solid black/white version along with a screenshot of an outline version showing all bezier points and handles.
