What is Illustration?

What is Illustration?
A simplistic view of the world could be read as someone who draws for publications, but again this doesn't seem to incorporate enough. What about hand drawn type, printmaking, painting or animation? Some designer's work could be described as illustrative and some illustrators as designs.

This then leaves the question - What is Illustration?

Illustration is an massive subject. I want to simplify it by using mainly infographic illustrations and very minimal body copy. I feel that Illustrations are visual images that convey messages. With the uniqueness of
our own intellect and craft skills, this would lead to a production of 'one-of-a-kind' designs.

Format: Folder and a booklet
Printing: Screen-printed - purple, silver and white acrylic ink
Binding: Hand sewn

Open-Ended
In addition to how an individual create an illustration, I feel that there are three main functions of illustrations;
to decorate, to reflect and to provoke. While this is my personal view on what illustration should be, it is also an open ended question with no correct answer. Therefore, I used full-stops/ dots (.... . . . ) to represent that idea.
